4/29 vs KC by TOM HAYDEN

SAFECO FIELD, SEATTLE, WA. ----

What a defensive battle this game was as KC RHP Kris Medlen and RHP Felix Hernandez squared off in what was the start to this three-game series in Seattle. Hence the 1-0 final score, both teams had 7 hits combined on the night. The Mariners were only held to 1 hit in fact, and that one hit is what sealed the deal.

RF Seth Smith, who has been batting a team high AVG. for awhile now, took one deep to right field last night in the sixth inning for his third HR of 2016. Smith went 1-2 on the night and now has a .288 AVG. Smith's HR was the only action of the night for Mariners' offense.

On the mound, Felix Hernandez made his fifth start of 2016 going 7.2 innings giving up only 5 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks, with a strikeout total of 4. Hernandez earned the win and now has a record of 2-2 on the year with a 1.38 ERA. Felix's ERA in Seattle... 0.00! That's some great stuff. RHP Nick Vincent came in for 1 out of relief followed by RHP closer Steve Cishek who has been lights out. Cishek came in with a 1-1 record and maintained his fantastic 0.82 ERA in his outing on Friday night. Cishek also earned his sixth save on Friday night. In Steve's last 6 appearances, he has tossed 6 saves for the M's.

GAME 2 of this series with the Kansas City Royals is Saturday night, first pitch at 7:10 PM PAC, 10:10 PM ET. ***The time for this game has recently changed from 6:10 PM PAC to 7:10 PM PAC***. LHP Wade Miley will make his fifth start of 2016 (1-2, 7.04 ERA), as the M's will face KC RHP Yordano Ventura (2-0, 2.35 ERA). Wade Miley will look to continue what has been a successful history facing  the Kansas City Royals. Catch this one on ROOT Sports NW or listen in on 710 ESPN Seattle.

This is Tom Hayden signing off saying Go Mariners! Stay #TrueToTheBlue.
