The Mariners were narrowly defeated by the now 11-19 Houston Astros on Friday night. RHP Taijuan Walker made his sixth start of 2016, but only went 2.0 innings due to neck spasms. It was reported that Walker had felt the neck pain prior to the start, and couldn't move his neck too well going into the game. Walker reportedly slept awkwardly on the neck the night before. On a good note, Taijuan should be able to make his next start without an issue.
Offensively, the M's combined for only 5 hits on the night, having came into the game averaging 12 hits per game. SS Ketel Marte (.298 AVG) had another big night at the plate as he cleared the bases loaded with a triple in the seventh inning to put up the Mariners' 3 runs. 3B Kyle Seager (.213 AVG) also had a 2-hit night, and despite the low average now, is in fact heating up as he is hitting over .300 in the last 10 games.
RHP Taijuan Walker (2-2, 2.97 ERA) suffered the loss on Friday night going 2.0 innings giving up 3 runs on 2 hits (1 earned) in the outing. RHP Mayckol Guaipe (5.79 ERA), LHP Mike Montgomery (2.93 ERA), and RHP Steve Johnson (3.86 ERA) all tossed in relief on Friday giving up 3 runs on 6 hits combined. Relief struck out 5 on the night combined.
