ROBINSON CANÓ! The man is on fire. He now leads the AL with 11 HR, and leads all of Major League Baseball with 32 RBI. The Mariners defeated the Houston Astros on Saturday thanks to great performances by RHP Nathan Karns on the hill, and 2B Robinson Canó, 3B Kyle Seager at the plate. The final score, 3-2 M's in 10 innings.
Offensively the Mariners put up 11 hits on the night. HOU LHP Dallas Keuchel gave up 8 hits in his 7 innings of work. Canó (.306 AVG), went 4-5 on Saturday night with 4 hits, 2 HR (11 on the season, leads AL), 2 RBI. 3B Kyle Seager continues to heat up at the plate bringing up a .232 AVG. Seager went 3-4 with a solo HR early (7 on the season) and a triple later, his second triple of the year. Kyle didn't triple once last year.
Defensively RHP Nathan Karns made his sixth start of 2016, and he had himself a solid outing. Karns went 6.1 innings striking out 9, giving up only 1 run on 6 hits (earned run). In relief, RHP Nick Vincent (1.38 ERA) , RHP Joel Peralta (1.86 ERA), and RHP closer Steve Cishek (1.13 ERA) pitched well. Mariners relief ranks really well compared to other MLB teams as of right now. Cishek earned himself the win, (now 2-1), despite giving up a solo HR to Luis Valbeuna in the bottom of the ninth. Cishek blew the save, but redeemed himself with a win.
The M's and Astros are set and ready to play Mother's Day Series Finale baseball on Sunday, May 8th. RHP Hisashi Iwakuma (1-3, 4.03 ERA) will face HOU RHP Collin McHugh (3-3, 6.59 ERA).
