Mariners pummel Orioles, jump back into first place

5/17 at BAL by TOM HAYDEN

The Seattle bats were alive on Tuesday night as the 22-16 M's took down the now 23-14 Baltimore Orioles by a score of 10-0. LHP Wade Miley put up some decent numbers in his eighth start of the year, and Mariners offense combined for 12 hits on the night.

LHP Wade Miley (4.32 ERA) earned the win on Tuesday night as he went 6.0 innings giving up only 2 hits, no runs, while striking out 1. In relief, LHP Vidal Nuño (1.42 ERA) and RHP Steve Johnson (1.50 ERA) tossed the next 3.0 innings. Johnson and Nuño gave up no runs, no hits and struck out 2 Orioles on the night. Combined, the M's gave up only 2 hits altogether. That's some good stuff right there.

Offensively, it was quite the game to watch. The Mariners put up 12 hits after being 2-hit on Sunday back home in Seattle against the Angels. The Mariners came to Baltimore aggressive and ready to put up some runs and hit the baseball; and that's just what they did. 2B Robinson Canó (.302 AVG) and DH Nelson Cruz (.281 AVG) both had night's at the plate. Canó went 3-4 with 3 hits, 2 RBI while scoring 3 runs for the M's. For Robinson, he continues to lead the league in RBI with 36 so far on the year, and is tied for second in the MLB in HR with 12. DH Nelson Cruz went 3-3 with 3 hits, 5 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Cruz connected for his eighth HR of 2016 on Tuesday night in the the sixth inning, a 2-run blast! 3B Kyle Seager (.254 AVG) also continues to heat up as he belted a 3-run blast on Tuesday night in the fifth inning for his eighth of 2016. Seager went 2-4 on the night with 2 hits.

The Mariners are set and ready to play Game 2 on Wednesday night with the Baltimore Orioles. With the win, the M's will clinch the series. RHP Taijuan Walker (2-2, 2.63 ERA) who has been on fire will face BAL RHP Chris Tillman (5-1, 2.58 ERA).
