Walker's struggles continue as Mariners drop Game 1 to Texas

The Mariners were defeated on Friday night by the AL West rival Texas Rangers by a score of 7-3. RHP Taijuan Walker made his eleventh start on the year, and
unfortunately had a tough outing. The M's also left 14 on base on Friday night. With the loss the Mariners have fallen to 31-23 on the season and are now 1.0 game back of the Rangers who now sit in first place of the American League West.

Offensively the Mariners connected for 9 hits on the night facing TEX RHP Yu Darvish for a majority of the game. 3B Kyle Seager reached a .300 AVG after a couple at bats in the game on Friday. He put the ball in play twice, going 2-4 on the night with 1 RBI (39 on the season so far for Seager). Also connecting for 2-hit nights were 1B Dae-Ho Lee (.310 AVG) and C Steve Clevenger (.216 AVG). The Mariners left a total of 14 runners on base on Friday, ultimately which costed them in the end.

RHP Taijuan Walker made his eleventh start of 2016 on Friday night. Walker (2-6, 3.94 ERA) unfortunately suffered a loss going 5.0 innings giving up 6 runs on 9 hits (all earned), while walking 4 and striking out 2. Walker was relieved by RHP Cody Martin (2.25 ERA). Martin went 3.0 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits (all earned), while striking out 2 and walking 1 on the night.

The Mariners and Rangers will play Game 2 of this 3-game weekend series on Saturday night. Seattle will look to turn things around from last night as RHP Nathan Karns will take the hill for the eleventh time this season. Karns (5-1, 3.43 ERA) and the M's will face TEX LHP Martin Perez (3-4, 3.12 ERA). With Perez being a lefty, expect to see Dae-Ho Lee in the lineup at 1B in place of Adam Lind.
