Nelson Cruz, Wade Miley boost M's past the Tribe in game two

6/7 vs CLE by TOM HAYDEN

On a beautiful Tuesday night at Safeco Field in the beautiful city of Seattle, the Mariners looked to snap a 4-game losing streak, while also snapping Cleveland's 6-game winning streak, and they did just that. With a clean-shaven Wade Miley on the bump for his twelfth start this year, Mariners defense was able to hold the Tribe to only 1 run. With the win, the Mariners now find themselves with a W-L record of 32-26, and are still 4.0 games in back of the Texas Rangers in the American League West.

Offensively the M's connected for 11 hits on the night. RF Nelson Cruz (.294 AVG) had himself a NIGHT as he went 2-3 at the plate with 2 monstrous HRs (one in the first inning for a 2-run blast and the other in the fifth inning for a solo blast). Cruz now has 15 homers on the year so far. Also contributing offensively for the M's were LF Seth Smith (.262 AVG), 2B Robinson Canó (.288 AVG), DH Adam Lind (.248 AVG) and SS-RF Shawn O'Malley (.179 AVG) each with 2-hits in this one. O'Malley connected for 2 RBI on the night and had a triple. C Steve Clevenger (.222 AVG) had a 2 RBI double in this one to help the M's pad a strong lead over the Indians.

On the mound, LHP Wade Miley made his twelfth start of 2016 and went a strong 7.0 innings giving up no runs on 4 hits, while striking out 3 Indians and walking 2. Wade earned himself the win, and now has a solid W-L record of 6-2, with an ERA of 5.27. In relief of Miley were RHP Joaquin Benoit (3.27 ERA) and RHP closer Steve Cishek (2.39 ERA). Relief combined to give up only 1 run on 1 hit (CLE- Lonnie Chisenhall solo HR off of Benoit in the eighth inning) while striking out 2 combined Indians on the night.

The Mariners will look to get another win on Wednesday night as the 32-25 Indians get set to play Game 3 of this 4-game series at Safeco. RHP Taijuan Walker (2-6, 3.94 ERA) will make his twelfth start of the season. Walker and the M's will face CLE RHP Carlos Carrasco (2-0, 3.00 ERA).
