Ketel Marte #M365BIOBLOG

By Tom Hayden

Recently called up to play for the Mariners, Ketel Marte has worked hard his entire life to reach this moment. The 21 year old has played the game at many different positions, for he has the ability to. In fact, Marte has already played CF, 2B, and SS for the Mariners since his major league debut on July 31st. It's all about how he got to the majors that makes it important however.

Ketel Marte was born on March 12, 1993 in Nizao, Peravia, Dominican Republic. Marte grew up around baseball, and developed an interest for the game early on.

On August 13, 2010, Marte signed with the Mariners as an international free agent. He started play professionally over in the Dominican Republic, and then was called up in 2012 to play with the Seattle affiliates Everett Aquasox and the Clinton Lumberkings. Playing well with mostly Clinton, Marte then started 2014 with the AA Jackson Generals. Later in 2014, Marte then officially moved up to AAA Tacoma. Ketel played terrific in the minors, and many were certain that he would get called up, it was just a matter of when he would or not. Officially on July 31st, 2015 Ketel Marte would be called up to play for the Seattle Mariners, originally to fill the spot of an injured Robinson Canó at second base. Turns out, Marte has played well these passed couple weeks in his start in the majors. The Mariners have developed a strong interest in Marte, and feel very confident in his abilities. His speed and great offense also allows the Mariners to bat him lead-off as well. The impressive thing about Marte is how fast he moved through the minors and up to the majors. That is a sign of a very talented baseball player, and Ketel Marte sure has the talent for great future success. Keep your eyes on Marte, for he will one day be a big name. #GoMariners #TrueToTheBlue.
